In June, Fr. Kerry Walters, pastor of Holy Spirit ANCC, took a 1st place Catholic Association Press Award for his recent book St. Teresa of Calcutta: Missionary, Mother, Mystic.
The Catholic Press Association of the United States & Canada annually recognizes books that offer “outstanding Catholic material to the general public.” The awards are considered some of the most prestigious in North American religious publishing.
The judges’ citation for Fr. Walters’ book reads: “This beautifully written biography is a model of contemporary hagiography: modest, intelligent, theologically informed and spiritually sensitive.”
Fr. Walters’ biography of Mother Teresa was released last autumn by Franciscan Media to coincide with her canonization by Pope Francis. It focuses especially on the 50-year-long “dark night of the soul” she endured during her ministry to the world’s poorest of the poor.
The author or editor of 41 books and hundreds of articles, Fr. Walters’ 2013 Giving up god…to Find God: Breaking Free of Idolatry also received a Catholic Press Association Award. Several of his other books have also won awards and been translated into Korean and Portuguese. He is a frequent contributor to Huffington Post, and writes a weekly newspaper column called “Faith Matters.”
